School Computer Tech Confesses To Sex Crimes

Posts about real school tragedy, crime and/or events can be upsetting.

Robin Lyons Blog PostBLOG POST #179: This week, I’m sharing research on a specific crime involving a computer tech in a rural school district.

The rural school district, unknowingly, hired this sexual predator in 2005. During his employment as the person who maintained the district computers, he obtained approximately 10 pornography images of school district students, ages 15 and 16 years old he’d discovered on the students’ district-issued laptops.

The Predator

While employed with the school district, his sickening behavior at home was unimaginable. The earliest known sexual molestation occurred in 2008, when he assaulted his live-in girlfriend’s four young daughters. Five years later, now married to a woman with three daughters, ages 6, 9, and 11. You guessed it—he began molesting his step-daughters.

Married and regularly molesting his step-daughters he used Facebook messenger to contact one of the ex-girlfriend’s daughters now 14 to rekindle their relationship.

The Heroine

The young girl reported the computer tech to local law enforcement who in turn contacted the state’s Cyber-Crime Task Force. A task force officer began communicating with the man through the girl’s messenger account. In the officer’s sworn statement he reported the man repeatedly reminded the teen to delete her messages after their chat so her mother wouldn’t see them.

The messages between the officer and the computer tech were sexually charged and graphic. The sexual predator recalling moments when he’d played sex games with the then 9-year-old girl. This continued for about 2 weeks.

Then the man asked if they could meet at a mall during his thirty-minute lunch break from work and she could perform oral sex on him. He cautioned her that if she told anyone he would be in big trouble.

The Arrest & Sentence

The task force arrested him at the mall. It was during his confession they learned about the earlier molestation of the 14-year-old’s sisters and what he was currently doing with his step-daughters. He admitted he couldn’t control his sexual desire for girls between 9-11-years-old.

He pleaded guilty to transferring obscene material to a minor and to enticing a minor for criminal sexual activity. The U.S. Attorney requested an upward variance or sentencing greater than the sentencing guidelines recommend.

A U.S. District Judge sentenced him to 20 years in federal prison without parole. Following his prison term, he will be on supervised release for the rest of his life. The court also ordered him to pay $5,000 in restitution to the 14-year-old victim.
