Robin Lyons BlogBLOG POST #181: This week, I’m sharing research on a specific crime involving a young high school English teacher.

You may remember seeing the video on the news. In the morning, students, from outside the classroom, recorded the teacher alone in her classroom doing drugs. Students alerted the principal and posted the video on social media which was widely viewed.

The local police were called and arrived to investigate late the same morning. A police officer walked the 24-year-old teacher out of the school in handcuffs. Students also recorded her leaving the school and posted this on social media as well.

Robin Lyons BlogBLOG POST #178: This week, I’m sharing research on a specific crime involving a 12-year-old middle school student.

I haven’t experienced a school lockdown, but I imagine it’s frightening. Even the toughest kids most likely become fearful when their classroom door is locked, the windows covered, and they’re told to huddle in a corner.

Making it even scarier is how long it takes to hear “all clear.” Kids can be held in classrooms for many hours. There may be a crime scene to process, there may be an assailant roaming the halls, key people may have been harmed causing the best emergency preparedness plans to become derailed. Meanwhile on the perimeter, parents become frantic with worry.

Robin Lyons School News BlogBLOG POST #177: This week, I’m sharing research on a specific crime involving a 15-year-old high school student and her 50-year-old teacher.

It was her first year in public school. She’d been home-schooled through eighth grade.

He’d been with the high school for six years, teaching health sciences.

She’d been a student in his forensics class when another student said they’d witnessed the student and teacher kiss in his classroom. The accusation was unsubstantiated but the rumors were rampant and triggered the following events.

Crossing The Line

The morning the teacher disappeared with his student he’d left a note for his wife. He said he needed to get away and ‘clear his head.’ He took with him  $4,500 and two prescription refills of an erectile dysfunction medication.

Recently, Los Angeles school teachers went on strike for better wages and working conditions. This made me think about the Louisiana teacher who at a board meeting in 2018, asked why the superintendent should have a salary increase when teachers hadn’t seen a raise in nearly ten years.

She was interrupted and ejected from the meeting, then arrested for Willful Disobedience. Do you remember this story? If not, here’s the post from April 2018: Willful Disturbance

I wondered if anything new had transpired since I wrote the original post. In researching, I found a lot had happened and decided it was worthy of an update.

The teacher became fixated on a 17-year-old male student in his band class.

The teacher told the boy he had a crush on him.
