He was five years older than his girlfriend. If they’d both been adults, that would’ve been fine. But she was 15 when they began dating. She kept his age secret from her mother and stepfather.

Sadly, too many children witness their parents arguing and worse. Sometimes those arguments lead to violence. Here, the parents were still living together but no longer married. Divorced five years prior. They had three children living at home—two juveniles and the mother’s young adult son from a previous relationship.

It’s not unusual for a 23-year-old son attending college to live with his parents. What is unusual is the son lying about attending college when he’d flunked out. He also lied about being offered an amazing job.
