The day the multi-millionaire property developer met her, he was 14 years older; she was at work in a shop. He invited her to dinner in another country—asking her to accompany him. She accepted. Within one month of dating, she moved into his home.

As the years ticked by, and there was no proposal of marriage, the girlfriend became desperate. She paid $1,000 for a proxy Mexican marriage certificate that didn’t require either party to be present. She then applied for a passport under her fake married name.

Eight years into the relationship, she reached out to a hitman service website—the same one the American used in the previous blog post. She wanted her boyfriend and his two sons killed so that she, as ‘his wife,’ would become the heir to his wealth. Of course, the hitman accepted the job. His cost for killing three people was $90,000, with a down payment of $45,000. She sent him the equivalent of $23,000.

The Plan: After the hired assassin put his homemade ricin into the son’s drinks while at a local pub, their father was going to ‘jump’ from a 14th floor balcony at his vacation penthouse in Spain.

The girlfriend didn't know the hitman’s ‘M.O.’ After he accepts a job and the downpayment, he tells the intended victim about the plot. Then he tries to extort the balance of the job price tag from the intended victim(s).

After the hitman and his wife arrived in Ireland, he told the sons that their father’s girlfriend had hired him to kill them. They called the police (like the American victim did in the previous blog post).

The Irish police arrested both the hitman and his wife. For immunity, the wife agreed to testify against her husband. She turned over emails, phone call logs, and evidence that the girlfriend had sent her husband money. Five months after they’d arrested the hit man, the Irish police arrested the girlfriend.

They both went to trial, and the juries found them both guilty. The jury found the hitman guilty of extortion and the girlfriend of soliciting and conspiring to murder.

The hitman served five years in an Irish prison. Upon his release, they extradited him to the USA to face similar charges.

At the ex-girlfriend’s sentencing, although they were very different, her ex-boyfriend and his sons all gave victim impact statements. Her ex-boyfriend stood by her side throughout the trial and asked the judge for leniency in his sentencing. The son’s spoke about being a target of a hired killer has made them more self-conscious. They said, they are….

“Always looking over their shoulders.”

They also added that the crime and their father’s support of the woman had weakened their relationship with their father.

The Irish judge sentenced the ex-girlfriend to six years in prison. She appealed her conviction. They dismissed her appeal. After serving four years in prison, and because of good behavior, the court offered her an early release with the following terms.

  • Prohibited alcohol consumption

  • Required to stay in Ireland

  • Regularly report to the police

  • Not permitted to speak with the media

  • Good behavior

Once able to speak publicly, she considered writing a book about her prison experience and claimed to be in talks for a movie deal. Not caring for the media and paparazzi attention, she dropped the book and movie discussions, opting for a quiet life.

She and her ex-boyfriend got back together after her prison release but have since amicably but permanently ended their relationship.
