At the time Tammy Dickinson, U.S. Attorney for Western District of Missouri presented *The Crystal Kipper & Ali Kemp Memorial Award to Alison D. Dunning she held the position of Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor. Now, you’ll find her at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Missouri, working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
In 2013, Assistant Prosecutor, Dunning received the award for her 15 years of tireless pursuit of justice on behalf of child victims. One notable case she worked on involved a child predator masquerading as an elementary school teacher.
The child predator ended up pleading guilty to 16 counts of abuse involving young boys at the school where he taught. The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
I have been a prosecutor the majority of my legal career, and I have seen first-hand the devastating effect crime has on victims and the need to ensure the rights of victims are respected,” Tammy Dickinson, U.S. Attorney for Western District of Missouri said.
It takes a special person to work day after day seeking justice for crimes against children. The tremendous stress a person must overcome when digging deep into heartbreaking crimes makes people like Assistant U.S. Attorney, Alison D. Dunning, a heroine.
*The Crystal Kipper & Ali Kemp Memorial Award is presented by the U.S. Attorney’s Office each year during the observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week to recognize the outstanding work of an individual or organization in protecting children from exploitation. The award is presented in memory of Crystal Kipper and Ali Kemp, two young women who were both fatal victims of tragic crimes.
