Can you fall in love with someone in six months when you aren’t getting lovie-dovie vibes from the other person? In this true crime, the answer is a clear yes.

The infectious disease doctor had been dating the man for six months—he had not committed to an exclusive relationship with the doctor. When he broke off the relationship, the doctor didn’t take it well. She became emotional and proclaimed her love for the man.

Her ex-boyfriend had met someone who he wanted to date exclusively. The doctor learned who the new girlfriend was and began stalking the woman.

She found out where the new girlfriend’s grandmother lived and left a threatening letter on her front porch. The letter posed as a voice against the new girlfriend’s religious position she’d shared on social media. It said, she better leave the area, or she’d get hurt. There was a photo of her with her eyes X’ed out. The threat included the ominous ending, “Don’t test us.”

The family immediately installed security cameras at the grandmother’s home. Six days after the letter arrived, in the middle of the night, the camera recorded a small woman set fire to the grandmother’s front porch. Unfortunately for the doctor, the flames burned bright, and the camera switched from night-mode to daytime and showed the doctor’s face.

Detectives found plenty of incriminating evidence in the doctor’s car. They arrested her. A forensic psychologist testified that she’d had emotional and psychological challenges throughout her life. The ex-doctor later pleaded guilty to arson and stalking. The judge sentenced her to between 11 and 23 months in a county correctional facility.

The medical licensing board in her state suspended her license to practice medicine.
